Hotter is better for geothermal power. But the electronics needed to drill directional wells dies above 200°C

Leveraging extreme space exploration technology, Hephae will double the efficiency of geothermal and make it cheaper than natural gas by going hotter and deeper.

I am holding their electronics and thermal management package, and Steve Krase, Hephae CEO and Co-Founder, is holding a traditional directional drilling electronics package.

Geothermal offers 24/7 carbon-free energy, and by tapping just 1% of the world’s super-hot rock, we could generate 8x the world’s electricity needs for many centuries.

Hephae is our latest investment (today’s news).

One response to “Hot Rock Geothermal — from outer space to inner space”

  1. "Recovery of just 1–2% of the thermal energy stored in hot rock at 3 to 10 km depths would be sufficient to meet world energy consumption for many centuries," noted a report at the World Geothermal Congress. The geothermal gradient averages 25–30 degrees Celsius per kilometer, originating from the decay of radioactive elements and residual heat from the earth’s formation. — from: Reason.
