No, those are not stone toilets deep in the Aragonese Castle on Italy’s Island of Ischia; that where the Poor Clares cloistered nuns placed their dead… left to ooze out to bones over time.

Each day, the nuns would enter the small room to pray, the stench serving a reminder of our ephemeral earthly life.

This is an odd habit (so to speak) that started about 400 years ago. I have to wonder how the sicko that first thought of doing this pitched it to the other nuns… "Now hear me out…"
