Galloway hits hard, like a stand-up comic, on a rough subject — the growing disparity in generational wealth.

"I think Mark Zukerberg has done more damage to the young people in our nation than any person in history." — Scott’s TED talk just went online

  1. …and suddenly I am back at TED 1999-2003…in Monterey…when Richard still ran it, when I loved it, and when admission was open to anyone who wanted to go and could cough up the even then $crazy money it cost to attend…before it morphed almost completely into a 65+ power-elite tech-boomer self-congratulation society. Hmmm. This was a GREAT talk by Galloway…it made the audience uncomfortable…but they kept their sense of humor and seemed to know truth when it was gently shoved down their throats. Kudos to Chris A for letting Galloway on-stage uncensored… ps: TED really needs to leverage its embarrassing abundance of funding to offer HALF of the tickets each year by some merit-based application process for FREE to folks under ~40 years old who JUST WANT TO BE THERE, and who could NEVER in a million years afford the increasingly exorbitant fees that are now EXCLUSIVE in the worst way imaginable. ps: the post Richard TED era has been one of massive change…Much of what Chris and the new team have done has been excellent (TED talks being released online for the masses = the BEST thing). But the non-exclusive/egalitarian flavor of the Richard era and its cozy/quiet location in Monterey is sorely missed…Where else could you sit behind Rupert Murdoch, next to a passel of not-yet-millionaire start up founders, next to Intuit CEO/founder Scott Cook, with Bill Gross (idea lab) immediately behind you in the same session, with ZERO press, and John Doerr in the wings prepping pre-IPO Google founders Larry and Sergey to go on stage? That was magical!!!

  2. yeah…. I hear you. This year, we were on the front row for every session… so you can see our reaction to one of the funnier moments… the silent Bezos roast:
