Obviously there’s a reason we run most of society on market mechanisms. (Not that big corporations are exactly free of waste.) But not everything can be provided by the market and those who wish to provide through non-market mechanisms need to ensure that this type of waste is avoided, at the risk of discrediting public efforts of any kind.

The time is NOW to do to all US Federal and Local Governments what Elon did to Twitter. FIRE 90% instantly, cut costs to absolute minimums and place all spending authority in the hands of a small group of rational humans (with appropriate checks and balances) until the situation can be normalized. This is a nation-wide catastrophe.
