I am holding up his new book Impromptu, written with the aid of GPT-4. Reid is a board member of Microsoft, and formerly OpenAI, before co-founding Inflection AI.
Reid on stage at BrainMind: “AI was a scale problem. And now, we have tons of compute and tons of internet data. We sailed right past the Turing Test without even noticing.
Language is the programming interface. So, anyone can program now. AI is an amplification assistant for everything we do with language. It’s a research assistant with superintelligence. And it operates cross-domain. It knows more domains than any human assistant.
We already have superintelligence in GPT-4.
The vision of Inflection AI is that we willl all have an AI. ‘Pi’ is our Personal Intelligence. It is trained to be emotionally intelligent in the HF (Human Feedback) routine. We train the trainers to be kind and compassionate. From the pattern of training, we put as much energy into EQ as IQ.”
I am reading his book now, and I notice that it says “15 October 2023” for the date printed, and perhaps the precision is a nod to the pace of change in the AI field.

• Pi, now in a friendly flesh tone, chat bot
And so I asked Pi for an opinion, and got a friendly reply.
From all the rah-rah, I figure I am all set for Pi becoming Roko’s Basilisk… but shhhh… don’t tell it that I never actually spoke out about Open AI or the Future of Life Institute.
