The older bridge needs a bit of upkeep. The Klondike stampede, followed by this railway, was the height of good rush madness. From a few gold flakes found in a riverbed, 100,000 prospectors stampeded though the ice and snow over a three year period, 1896-1899.
3,000 horses died near here, due to the tortures of the trail and the inexperience of the stampeders.
