Complete Mk.7 rocket-assisted ejection seat from an F-4 Phantom II fighter jet was made by British manufacturer Martin-Baker Aircraft Co. Ltd., the world leader in ejection seats for more than 60 years. It includes a seatbelt, grip handle on right side of seat, empty oxygen tank and release button on left side of seat… and hopefully not the ejection rocket! An artifact from the Future Ventures’ Space Collection.
The McDonnell F-4 Phantom II two-seat twinjet fighter was one of the most versatile fighters ever built. It boasted top speeds above Mach 2 and became the U.S. Navy’s fastest, highest flying, and longest-range fighter. Both the Navy Blue Angels and Air Force Thunderbirds flight demonstration teams flew the F-4 from 1969 to 1973.
