I brought this little fellow in to show to my daughter today.
About 300 legs move with what looks like a wave ripple; each segment has a pair of legs with local sensing and input its neighbor, like a signaling cascade.
They can navigate different terrain with ease by coordinating their leg movements, likely through a decentralized method of sensory inputs. Some robot designers have tried to mimic this architecture.
