In the past month, financing for fusion energy just doubled the historical total, over 30 years and 24 startups!

Congratulations to Commonwealth Fusion for securing over $2B to date for the commercialization of a clean energy future! FD: Future Ventures has been an investor from the beginning.

Today’s WSJ: “Nuclear fusion has long been the holy grail of the energy world. Fusion has the potential to create nearly limitless energy using common elements such as hydrogen, and has the added benefit of generating little to no long-lived nuclear waste. ‘Everything is science fiction until someone does it and then all of a sudden it goes from impossible to inevitable,’ said Bob Mumgaard, chief executive of Commonwealth Fusion, which was spun out of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2018. The recent infusion of cash into fusion startups eclipses the roughly $1.9 billion in total that was previously announced, according to data tracked by the Fusion Industry Association”
