Fifty years ago, Apollo 15 was the first “J” Mission with the CSM SIMBAY full of scientific goodies like this unit.
I could use some help verifying the identity of this artifact pair, believed to be a 25-foot Boom and Gamma Ray Spectrometer encasement. Also, I’m curious if anyone has more information to share. The custom red-capped plug mates with the one dangling out of the deployment side of the boom

The G.R.S. is the white circle, bottom left. 
On Apollo 15 and 16, Iron abundance measured by the Apollo Gamma-Ray Spectrometer: 
Red is a high abundance, yellow and green are intermediate abundances, and blue and purple are low abundances. High iron abundances are found in all mare regions and lower abundances are found elsewhere. In combination with the low aluminum abundance found in the maria by the X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer, this indicates that the maria are covered by basalt.
