an absolute classic from the 50’s and the perfect melange of kitties in space and red mushrooms on Mars. Thanks Vanita for the perfect birthday gift! (She knows me well from 17 years on flickr).
I had never seen or heard of these books. They were published in a series from 1952-1958… so they started five years before Sputnik, and ended after Laika (the dog!!!) went orbital.
Luna went straight for “Space Cat Meets Mars” and we discovered that Mars is full of mushrooms, a lietmotif of the era. “They examined all the strange mushrooms which she showed him” The space cats hook up, and in the final book they have kittens (one is named Tailspin), and they live happily in “Luna Port, the first city built on the moon.”
