If you want to really geek out on Macro, a must follow is Javier Ruperez ex: http://www.flickr.com/photos/quenoteam/50489826823 – A true master. And make special note of the stacking techniques & the super cool gear he uses on his Canon 6D rig…such as:
Mitutoyo M Plan APO 5x 0.14 + Raynox 250
Tiempo exposición: 1/8" – ISO100
Canon Auto Bellows
MJKZZ IR Remote Motion Controller
Newport M436 linear stage
Stacking
Nº de fotos: 136
Pasos: 51,43 µm
Magnificación aproximada: 3,17x
Also: the Canon 100-400 f 4-5.6 IS II has a close focus distance of ~3 feet and creates excellent magnified macro images with beautiful natural color. Gets around all the lighting issues of having to be right on top of the subject. With the 5dMkIV shld be able to produce pretty great detailed images of the meteorites…only trick will be avoiding reflection…
@stephenbove OMG, I have that lens! I would never have thought of it for Macro Zooms. I also have the 100mm prime (Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS) with image stabilization. I wonder if it would be better. It has a 1:1 maximum magnification and an 11.8" minimum focusing distance.
