The impact left the 50-ft. Haviland Crater, approximately 20,000 years ago. It is a cosmic blend of yellowish olivine (peridot) crystals in an iron-nickel matrix.
Long before the farming of the mid-west and the finding of the first meteorites by settlers, the iron was being widely traded and used by the Native American population. Pieces of meteoritic iron originally from the Brenham area have been found in archeological burial sites over much of the eastern US, and as far away as Ohio.
Pallasite, PMG-an, one of just 15 with this classification. This end cut is a small 9g stone.
