The American ideals of free markets, individualism and exceptionalism tend to undermine dictates of the state and quarantine formation. The intuition it takes to be a good investor or tech entrepreneur runs counter to epidemiology, where networks effects and exponential returns are flipped to the negative. The response to coronavirus cannot be a free market of random theories under test. One bad actor can kill thousands and not know it. Pandemics require coordinated policy. Humanity needs to subjugate the self and act as one.
