The American Chamber of Commerce is hosting a trade delegation this week, with a focus on “Sustainable Growth Through Innovation”. I discussed the benefits of sustainable growth via cellular Ag, AI, and engineering simulations.

Directed evolution, generative design, machine learning and other iterative algorithms… the biggest advance in engineering since the scientific method, IMHO, and the vector for “sustainable growth though innovation”.

The majority of code at Google today is built by a machine.

The local visits include some of our favorite companies: Planet, Tesla and Unity.

  1. The huge high-res monitor makes for a daunting display discussing the various benefits of a motivating missionThe inevitable future — manufacturing meat with cellular Ag, like Memphis Meats. Here is the source reference on slide The trade delegation loved their visit to Planet. All you need is Dove. A flock of satellite builds seen here. Those are full-size satellites, not models, and Planet has recently launched more satellites than all other companies combined. This allows us to image every part of the Earth every day. and a moment of repose, with their speaker gift 🙂

  2. thanks… For a detailed dive into my thesis, I did a flickr post here.

In short, I think the use of iterative algorithms (e.g., machine learning, directed evolution, generative design) to build complex systems is the most powerful advance in engineering since the Scientific Method.

As with parenting, we create more than we understand.

  3. "…since the Scientific Method…" such a powerful statement… especially coming from Steve.

  4. I know… I am trying to think of a contender. Anything more powerful as a process innovation come to mind?
