
Michelle Obama was fantastic, with her poise, pride and perspective.
When commended for taking her own advice: “when they go low, we go high”:
“Going high benefits the person taking the high road.”
When asked what it was like to leave the White House, she paused for the first time, and then shared a poignant description. “My daughters have lived there longer than any other place. They insisted on a sleepover with friends for their last night, promising to wake up on time. They did not wake up on time. It was a mad rush to get everyone out the door with their belongings, and everyone was crying. I had to regain composure and stop crying before going out, because everyone would think I was crying for what had just happened to the country. Appearances matter.”
We should warn our kids that marriage is hard. We think it’s just a wedding dress and a fairy tale.
She advised us to reflect more… and put the phone down. While technology can be empowering and used for good, developers, entrepreneurs, and tech users need to live in the real world and not lose their humanity and miss out on making real connections. So many social media company founders have not had teenagers yet; they’ll see. It is such a new phenomenon. Barack didn’t have an iPhone. Perhaps our President shouldn’t.
