At Vintage TED yesterday:

“We have to look at new ‘committed emissions.’ Every coal plant built today will have 50 years of emissions. The committed emissions will take us past 1.5° and perilously close to 2° warming. If we could convert 100% of all emitters tomorrow, we might come in below 2° warming, barely.”

“We have to electrify at scale. There is no time to wait for a miracle. It is too late for a carbon tax. There is no time for free market adoption curves. We need 100% tomorrow! The rules of normal economics won’t and can’t apply if we are to hit the target we need to hit. We have done it before with Apollo and the Manhattan project. America has a history of doing the impossible. American has to throw down and commit for the world to follow. We have to go big or we won’t have a home.”
