The Eagle has Landed — in the world’s largest motion flight simulator at NASA.
When NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine came to town, they brought the Lunar Module cab out of storage and fired up the program for the Apollo and Altair Lunar Landers, so he could give it a spin. I did too, and compiled a video montage: https://youtu.be/uvOzdtk6dG8
It moves with 6 degrees of freedom in a 120-ft. tall tower deep in the secure part of the NASA Ames campus. It’s powered by a massive hydraulic system that can simulate the movement of a moon lander as it hits the landing target on the moon. Apollo 50th!
