The super snow moon also rises… I just snapped this moonrise over Oakland through the marine layer with a Sony RX100 pocket camera shooting telephoto through one eye hole of the Canon 15×50 image-stabilizing binoculars…both handheld.

  1. and an amazing one from Reddit: "I took nearly 50,000 images of the night sky to make an 81 Megapixel image of Tuesday’s moon."

  2. 1) IS nocs > cool!
    2) was there any byline avail on the reddit composite image? would love to know who/how…
    3) u owe yourself an upgrade to the Canon 100-400 4-5.6 IS II…it makes possible telescopic handhelds at .25sec and the optical quality is pretty spectacular for the price. Plus, no more trombone-zoom as in the old 100-400.
    4) been playing with the new Nikon z7…it is very possibly as big a jump as the 5dII was…native lenses are sharp as tacks and dynamic range + ~50mp = whole new level of precision/richness in stills and full-frame 4k video… Still no native Zeiss glass for it > dream for walk-around would be a good small Zeiss Batis 25mm 2.0 comparable (as is available for Sony mirrorless)…

  3. oooh…. on #3, OMG, thanks. I have taken about 20K rocket launch frames through the old one… Rocket Reverieand the new one looks so much better!
