Scenes below from my keynote at Satellite Innovation 2018 yesterday.

The video is not out yet, but this onsite interview by Satellite Finance was just made public (normally behind a paywall).

On screen, SpaceX President Gwynne Shotewell in BusinessWeek: “Hopefully the public looks at SpaceX and says ‘They do what they say they’re going to do.’ Even when it sounds completely insane at the beginning. It might take longer. It almost always takes longer. But yeah, we’re doing really cool stuff.” from “SpaceX’s Secret Weapon Is Gwynne Shotwell” in the special Business Week issue on the New Space Age.

I have had the great honor to work with Gwynne Shotwell for a decade. Here is a transcript of one of our recent fireside chats.

And from that BW cover story: “A full-fledged space economy is within reach, and with it, perhaps, a permanent human presence above. Technology has, in stunning fashion, shown us that we can become a spacefaring species.

“Morgan Stanley released a study last year estimating that revenue from the global space industry will increase to at least $1.1 trillion by 2040, more than triple the figure in 2016.”

  1. Sir Arthur Clarke on reusable boosters…. want to guess when he said that? Here’s the answer & story.

Free market share… The U.S. went from 100% to Zero, and then SpaceX entered and took the U.S. from 0 to 60%

  2. Do you expect that this talk will be uploaded? I’d love to watch 🙂
