I love prototypes!

David Eagleman and Rob Reid were wearing the NeoSensory devices… clearly up to no good! 🙂

But seriously, David, is working on the prosthetic extension of our senses through the associative reprogramming of our sensory cortex, an area that retains a high degree of neural plasticity through adulthood. This is being used to allow the deaf to hear at 1/200th the cost of a cochlear implant.

P.S. Here are my notes on the talks at the BrainMind Symposium.

  1. He showed the snazzy new vest on stage. Here is a photo I took of a prototype 3 years ago at TEDSocial Media Straight Jacket – vibrating with real-time Twitter feedback during David Eagleman's talk

  2. David Eagleman’s work is AMAZING! His way of opening new perceptions is as great a door opener to new realms as 3D printing is to new design of objects. The potential is astounding. It makes one curious about all of the potential stimuli that is out there that we may not yet be aware of or have sensory input for, but could sometime soon. Almost limitless. It’s wonderous.
