Here are some fascinating Apollo 11 artifacts & stories for the anniversary of the 1st landing on the moon later today:

1) Prototype flag, a last minute addition with all the flaws. It only “flew” for 14 hours
2) The Apollo 11 Goodwill Disc, to leave letters from the heads of state on the moon
3) The Apollo 11 Lunar Module construction log
4) The Apollo 11 Command Module EVA handle, the only flown exterior handle from any Apollo mission (the rest were destroyed as radioactive waste)
5) Neil Armstrong’s Menu: yes, the first moon walk was powered by bacon!

I’ll add the full story to each photo caption. And you can watch a rebroadcast of the live coverage starting at 4:10pm EST today: https://kottke.org/19/07/live-tv-coverage-of-the-apollo-11-landing-and-moon-walk
