Inspiring the next generation. Oh, did we mention the driver?
I am on my way to the Cape now, with the 800mm lens… Will take photos!
A massive launch with 27 engines producing 5 million lbs. of thrust… and two flight-proven side boosters coming back at us to land in a thunderous duet. The center core will land further downrange, on a drone ship.
If all goes well, it will be the most powerful rocket on Earth (2x more than #2, and 1/3 the cost) and will mark the first private mission to deep space. We should have video of Elon’s EV heading out on a Hohmann Transfer Orbit, zipping by Mars on a billion-year voyage. Here is a great video summary of what to expect tomorrow: https://youtu.be/Tk338VXcb24
SpaceX: “Falcon Heavy was designed from the outset to carry humans into space and restores the possibility of flying missions with crew to the Moon or Mars.”
And some nice perspective from the space folks at the Cape: “It’s been a very long time since I’ve seen the enthusiasm and energy and the anticipation that the community is exhibiting,” said Dale Ketcham, chief of strategic alliances at Space Florida.
“Spaceflight is like dinosaurs – it brings out the kid in everybody again,” he said. “It’s just exciting to have that back. It’s been a long time.”
