Thou art more lively and more delicate:
Passing time sheds the tender flesh and hair,
And mammoth’s lease had all too short a date:
Sometime in kitsch this sculptor shines
And often is the gold complexion plated;
And every fur from woolly sometime declines,
By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimm’d;
But thy eternal glitter shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that frame thou hast;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander’st in his shade,
When as gilded bones to time thou grow’st;
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
