I never knew a clock could be so heavy. I can barely lift it. A new addition to the DFJ Space Museum, SF branch.

The countdown/range clock is a stack comprised of two separate instruments (measuring 19″ x 18.5″ x 7.5″). Each has digital readouts, the first of which is labeled “Countdown 3” with display panels for mission, minutes and seconds; and a second similar clock labeled “Range Time”.

This countdown clock probably saw service during the groundbreaking days of the manned space program. It was acquired through the estate of Charlie Bell.

  1. It doesn’t look like Nixie tubes. Any idea what kind of display technology?
