Richard Garriott de Cayeux, aka Lord British, creator of the Ultima computer game franchise, brought the term Avatar to gaming, flew with the Russians to the International Space Station, and is the inspiration for the gamer legend in the book Ready Player One.

He is demonstrating the Soyuz seat, custom molded to fit the passenger. His liftoff to space is in the photo on the back wall along with other Soyuz artifacts.

We share so many quirky interests. I first met him when we were teenagers at space camp at JSC (story)
