Happy New Years from the newest earth on Earth, the freakish new lava flow the big island of Hawai’i. The lava found a crack that kept it warm for a rapid flow rate to a new town. The current eruption of Kilauea is the longest continuous rift-zone eruption in written history, with 1000 gallons of molten lava flowing every second… since 1983. Kilauea translates as “much spewing”. =) So far, 2 billion cubic yards of lava came from this eruption, enough to pave a highway around Earth 50 times.
