Taavi Roivas of Estonia explained some of the benefits of the new streamlined digital identity services: “Signing documents digitally saves us 2% of GDP annually.” He then pulled his pen from his jacket pocket: “I have this for symbolic reasons. 95% of what I sign is with my ID.”

  1. I consider Estonia to be my homeland (my parents were born there, and my father grew up in the equivalent of the White House), so I expressed my appreciation at this welcome home.
