The engines were built by the Soviets back in the 60’s.
Not designed in the 60’s, but built back then for the doomed N-1 program (all flights ended a bit like this one), and refurbished here.
When Doves Fry… I’m also sad to see 26 of Planet Labs‘ Dove satellites become squab….
But it’s a good thing that this debut flight of the Castor 30XL solid upper stage did not ignite midair, like this Delta rocket…
