Tim’s Vermeer
I inspected his masterpiece, a manual photograph made manifest, and a profound discovery in art history. Vermeer likely created his hyper-realistic paintings using a secret technique that required no painting talent, just a bit of patience. To demonstrate this, Tim embarked on a bit of maker madness, as summarized in this photo essay: http://boingboing.net/2014/06/10/vermeers-paintings-might-be.html

An engineer in computer graphics, Tim realized that Vermeer’s walls express a gradient of color that is not visible by the human eye at a distance, but could be captured with a small 45°-tilted mirror near the focal plane of a camera obscura lens. He set out to reproduce a Vermeer with the lens and pigments of the period, and no painting ability. The documentary film just came out on DVD: https://movies.yahoo.com/video/tims-vermeer-trailer-212050412.html
