Rusty used the LM model from the ground simulator to explain how he planned to use hand signals to communicate when the LM ascent engine was fired for the first time. They could touch the top of the engine inside the LM, and feared that it could be deafening roar on ascent. BUt when they lit it, there was not sound. They had to check the g-meter to see if anything was happening. The motion is so soft, that even at full thrust, the LM only pulls 1/3 of a g.

The LM target from the ground simulator in his hand also reminded him of his time in trainer when William Shatner came to visit. For the docking exercise with their guest, there replaced this LM model with a plastic model of the USS Enterprise. When Shatner came in to dock, the bright lights used to illuminate the model melted the plastic Enterprise. I quipped “Now that’s a photon torpedo.”
