Fascinating critters, very interesting in an aquarium but unfortunately they have been released into the Gull of Mexico by idiots and are causing significant problems – but they are reportedly quite tasty. It may be that commercial fishing will keep their population. within reasonable limits. The sting is quite painful but rarely if ever fatal.

  2. Nice shot.. keep your distance! The invasive lionfish has no natural predators in the Atlantic. It is consuming reef fish so successfully that in a shirt time reef habitats will collapse. It is a frightening prospect.

  3. They should not be in the Caribbean. Last trip down there, we were being offered bounties on any lion fish we could catch or report to rangers.
