The answer to life, the universe and everything.
Dr. Sanger, the pioneer of DNA sequencing, passed away this week. He gave us a peek into a brave new world, where 4 bases (ATGC) could translate into digital code (01).
4bases~2bits. 4b~2b. 42.
So it was a bit surreal that we had our first scientific advisory board meeting for Eve Bio yesterday with Craig Venter, the first to sequence the human genome, and a variety of other amazing people. Eve is working to develop a novel approach to sequencing where a cell phone imager could perform multiple reads in parallel and lower the cost to $100 for a full human genome sequence. If they succeed in this, you may find yourself sequenced as often as you get a blood test.
