George Lucas at MOMA awards dinner last night with Sim1 (photo by Scott Norman).

George grew up in Modesto and accidentally discovered film school when he thought it was for photography.

He stayed on “during Vietnam, when there was a lot of pressure to stay in school.” Met Francis Ford Coppola then.

“All art is technology. We use art to communicate emotion, and we push the boundaries of technology in order to do that.”

“With Star Wars, I didn’t know what I was doing.”

“You can make Star Wars now with one million dollars.”

Oh, I got a shot of the MOMA lifetime award presentation. The experimental film and beat artist Bruce Conner ran for San Francisco Supervisor in 1967. For his speech to the public, he recited a list of candies and deserts. For the voter booklet, he just used quotes from the Bible that had "light" in them. And for the campaign poster (here), Bruce used a photo of himself painting the word "LOVE" on a two-year old elephant, a commission by Goldwyn Studio’s for Peter Sellers’ spoof "The Party":

    Bruce Conner for Supervisor

The poster itself has been the subject of a specific object art installation. George Lucas accepted with "Bruce was a big influence for me, so this is meaningful to me. Thank you."

  5. P.S. and the magical encounter when he first met J.J. Abrams Boba Fettish
