They were quite insistent that no photos be taken of this procedure, so I had to persist in sneaking a shot.

The booth shields visitors from stray laser beams used to cleanse the statures from atmospheric pollutants, a painstaking manual process… the modern rendition of the olive oil scrub of Odysseus.

  1. For Greeks this all must be sort of puzzling, they have enough money for cleaning ancient caryatids, but contemporary Athenians are eating out of garbage cans only a few blocks away.
