New stickers for the giant flame-throwing octopus animatron…
The maker of El Pulpo Mecanico showed us his mechanical turk model. Short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8s_tu9off0&hd=1 The arms undulate up and down, the eyes bulge in and out, and the mouths open and close. What I did not imagine is that all of that motion derives from one central shaft.
The vehicle has a row of huge propane tanks down the middle, burning $3K worth per night. The propane unloads so fast (from liquid to gas), that the tanks need a circulating warm water bath to keep them from freezing up.
All of the substructure is invisible with the blinding propane of the night… and few would guess it was all made from junk found in Mexico.
