Flying a plastic cable spool with a rocket engine in the middle for the Fourth of July.
The blinking light separated from the airframe at apogee, making it difficult to find at night…. but…. (see below)
…but the next morning, it was hard to miss! An alien on the roof:
This was the night fleet of special projects…
The big one on the right will be my next post, and the 38mm minimum diameter duct tape rocket in the middle was really cool.
It had a golf ball for a nose, and it flew straight as an arrow on a H100 Imax motor until it went supersonic and all four fins ripped off overhead (RockSim calculates the peak velocity as 1,172 MPH, if she had held together).
Then the airframe with motor casing came back to Earth as a smoking javelin… with golf ball and long streamer floating in the air:
