Posted by request from Wikipedia for a photo of a Model S charging.

I thought I’d give the supercharger a try on a trip to Monterey, and it topped up the charge to full faster than lunch at the neighboring In-N-Out burger.

Oh, and this post gives me an excuse to share the most recent product review:

“We have been testing cars at Consumer Reports for a very long time, but we have never seen anything quite like the Tesla Model S. This car performs better than anything we have ever tested before. Let me repeat that. Not just the best electric car, but the best car. It does just about everything really, really well.”

This is the opening to the Consumer Reports video review of the entry level model. As is typical for them, they bought a car anonymously, and carried out their analysis independently from vendor input.

  1. Thanks Steve, I will let you know here when and where it is posted in Wikipedia. And congratulations on the raving review by Consumer Reports, 99 out 100 says it all!

    Cheers

  2. Super video. Congrats to Tesla for creating such a great car.

  3. Congratulations to Tesla. My next car is a Tesla for sure!

  4. They are such a beauty on the roads. Is the production able to catch up with the orders? They far outnumber police cars. Many years from now, your vintage car will fetch up millions in auction house if you decide to sell. Car appreciation — that’s defying gravity.

  5. Steve, you can find the picture at the WikiCommons here: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tesla_Supercharging_in_Gi…

  6. I meant to ask you: How much does using the air conditioner affect the range? That’s a concern when it’s 100 degrees all summer. (My parents’ Cadillac was recently totaled in a restaurant parking lot by a hit-and-run bar patron. Maybe I can convince my mom to switch to electric.)

  7. I am not sure, but I leave mine on all the time and it’s powerful (unlike the Tesla Roadster). The lights and stereo and A/C are fairly minimal energy use relative to driving.

Big picture: unless your parents road-trip across Texas, the range will be a non issue. In other words, for any driving they do in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, they will never need to look at the range, nor look for a place to charge…. as long as they get into the simple habit of plugging the car in whenever they park at home. If they do that, I bet they can forget about range for any driving scenario they have ever considered within the DFW metroplex. (Just my opinion – happy to talk with them if they are concerned about range).

  8. Tesla supercharging combined with a Peet’s coffee stop = genius waiting to happen 😉

  9. > happy to talk with them if they are concerned about range

More than that, you would have to overcome my mom’s affinity for used Cadillacs. Sadly, it’s too late, as yesterday they came home with a 2007 diamond-white DTS. Only 19K miles, SiriusXM radio, retractable side mirrors, looks brand new, and a great deal at $23K with a 4-year warranty. They might eventually be in the market for a 2023 Tesla sedan, though, so you can work on my mom whenever you see her.

  10. Perhaps this will motivate her… from today’s news:

"These stations will operate even if the entire national grid goes down," Musk said Thursday. "Even if there’s a zombie apocalypse, you’ll still be able to travel across the country on the Tesla supercharger network."

I’m sure they’ll come with the special gun rack for the standard issue Zombie-X AK-47

  11. You know my mom. Zombies don’t stand a chance. (Nor do people trying to convince her to change her mind.)
