A Splash of Burning Man

The Bay Lights is world’s largest LED light sculpture, a digital display with 25,000 lights stretching almost 2 miles long.

The guy who dreamed this up, Ben Davis, spoke at e.g. a couple weeks ago. His inspiration came after a divorce, when he went to Burning Man and wanted to bring some of that after-dark spectacle back home:

“I was inspired by the nightscape of the playa at Burning Man and frustrated that all that beautiful energy dissipated into the night sky. I wanted to find a way to bring that energy, generosity, spectacle, and awe back to that place that we live and let it stay longer. This is not just a bridge now, it is a canvas for light and a digital campfire” — Ben Davis

I took this shot from my hotel window while the road crew worked past midnight below.
