Driving the Tesla around the Stanford radio telescope, talking to the satellites streaming overhead…

The dish has two simultaneous receivers, and the different mesh densities are reflective (center) and transparent (outer ring) to the X-band.

  1. Windmills on the Frontier…Windmills on the Frontier…reminding me of all of my prior visits with unofficial climbs up the middle…..

  2. Any images yet from Dove 1 & Dove 2?

We are getting images back already from Graham, Alexander, and Bell:

Can’t wait to see what you guys get. If any of your followers on Flickr have amateur licenses, they can help with the image sourcing here:

The whole radio community is helping out. Happy to snag some of your stuff if you start sending data and photos.

  3. Can U talk to the satts thru your TESLA yet? That might make an novel app for you smart phone or the cars NAV system?

  4. Oh sure, the GPS sats and the Satellite Radio… =)

But I know what you mean… with fresh sat imagery, you could have the open parking space heat map… and even without a sat link to car, the current Google Maps Traffic View could be a bit more global (for the benefit of all modes of access).

    I just want the speed-trap tracker. 😉

  5. It just BOGGLES the mind what can be uplinked to the nav system in the cars, as for the speed traps+DUI checks GOOGLE or somebody had text alerts for your phone that alerted you to locale, alas the fuzz put the kibash on that ……………..Or how about a mini drone launched from car forging ahead with real time video of road conditions and MV Checkpoints? Now that would be a good start up company! Could call it the AUTO DRONE ZONE……………

  6. Steve, by any chance can you take and post a pic of the Model S charging and/or detail of the charger port for use in the Wikipedia article?

Cheers and keep posting your great shots!

  7. Supercharger in Gilroy?

  8. Steve, this pic is great for Wikipedia. But the way you posted it is categorized as private and cannot be downloaded. Can you make a separate upload with its licensing, so it can be imported to Wikimedia Commons?

    Thx

  9. OK, I made it public now.

  10. will it top offf your cell phone too if you leave it plugged in?

  11. Yeah, I would think it would, off of the USB ports in the center console. The energy draw for phone recharge is a tiny trickle, but the power density of the USB port would be the limit on speed; in other words, it would not "supercharge" the phone directly because neither the phone nor the USB interface is designed to support that.

  12. You’re lucky. The last few times I’ve driven up there, they were unhappy about it.
