   Nice translucence when backlit by the sun
   

   They are a feisty bunch. I tried the typical trick of grabbing them from behind, but they were strong and limber and freaked me out. My son discovered that if the eye stalks are covered in sand, they calm down and can be handled easily
   
   I call this the "crab cake"

   And after a bit of beach digging, the flip-flop was ideal bait to pull them out without sacrifice of finger…
