The Dudes
The sight of these happy herps always evokes a slow deep breath of calm. They rest at Steve Jobs’ favorite vacation spot, Kona Village, now owned by Michael Dell and lying fallow after the 2011 tsunami damage.

I just learned first hand that in his final days, Jobs called Dell to seek assurances that the resort would be restored as he loved it, a string of grass-roof hales with no television, phones or internet.

I first saw the duudes in late 2003 at and emailed Steve Jobs to remark on how many of the Finding Nemo characters I found in those waters. He fired back immediately “How can you get internet access at Kona Village?” “RIM Blackberry. Works wherever there is cellular coverage” I replied. This was 3.5 years before the iPhone.
