a race through the rain, and I thought I could bypass the boys by dropping down the muddy river bank. Getting up the slippery slope on the far side proved to be a bit tricky.

Ah yes, from the approach angle above, it has the triangular appearance of a shark, but it is a dolphin, a curious one that came from the left…
and then circled back around the surfer (photo above), and then went off to the right again to rejoin the pod, with classic dolphin fin visible:
The surfer sat still throughout, perhaps in awe. Another surfer felt a dolphin brush against his dangling foot under water.
