We started the day with a down home tradition — breakfast at the Dairy Queen near the entrance…

We had "Hunger-Buster" burgers with jalapenos and bacon and Blizzard ice creams blended with Heath Bar chunks.
Front door

The lobby starts with a reminder of the founding goal — to colonize Mars

just like they have at the SpaceX HQ.
Oh, I really like their glass tables

So, Steve, did the addition of bacon to your ‘hunger buster’ burger turn it into breakfast?
What a great facility. See more of it here:
Lots of good jobs available. One of the perks from their job ads:
"Experiencing the rumbling of a rocket engine multiple times each day is just one of the highlights of working at our Rocket Development Facility…. "
The growth in McGregor is reflective of growth company wide. SpaceX now employs over 1,250 employees since being founded in 2002 and the company has been profitable since 2007.
Oh to be young again!
SpaceX should sell those tables if they have nozzles that are no longer useful for flights or testing. First, it would look awesome in my living room. Secondly, I can totally see some Tripoli rocket scientist getting one to fly independently on the playa!
Founding goal should be to put the Dairy Queen on Mars and then colonize it! Come on let’s get it together!! Build it and they will come!
They have a row of those photos along the hallway leading off to the left. And a banner too:

Almost those exact words were spoken! I kid you not. But the colony comes first, then the DQ.

Spooky. I had the exact same reaction. I told Elon that I’d really like to buy one for our lobby to add to the Apollo and Soyuz engines there now.

Right you are. I recently found such a fellow who did that with my Atlas vernier motor!
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/7200514@N04] — The engine rumble is amazing. I will post one soon. When they fired up the nine-engine test bed under low cloud cover, the glow was visible over 500 square miles.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/24270806@N06] — everything is bigger in Texas.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/jitze1942] — the meal was surreal. I had to ask where the calorie poster was… and sure enough, Texas does not have that law. P.S. I just saw you shooting photos across the ring at the hoe down.

I highly recommend anyone reading this who hasn’t watched Bloomberg’s "Risk Takers" episode on Elon’s life to go & do so.
Thank you, Elon, jurvetson & so many others that strive to do good & never give up in the face of adversity for the incredible inspiration you offer to us all.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/jurvetson] I’m glad to see the word being spread on the benevolent potential of capitalism (when the motivations behind it are right); it gives me hope. The time of "competitive free markets" must be ended… and sensible regulation brought in to put "co-operative free markets" in their place. Instead of engaging in warfare, financial market participants must be motivated to work together on allocating resources for societal good. I believe it will be more profitable this way, too. However, the politicians don’t get it yet; they are intent on rebooting the same crashed system yet again with dangerous monetary policy; kicking the can down the road one more time. I am actively looking into the idea of co-operative financial markets at the algorithmic level; I am sure it is the best way forward & that it can be demonstrated empirically.
Thank you for taking such a great photo Mr. Jurvetson. We are doing a feature on Mr. Musk with the title "Elon Musk: The Real-Life Iron Man" and this picture could not be better suited for it. The angle you took it from is perfect; it looks like the Iron Man drawing is flying right off the wall.
I forgot that I had an earlier post on this comparison, and a SpaceX logo that accidentally made it into the movie:

Flickr lost the original background photos from Texas as well:
