a friend of mine used to go. one of his ideas was to rent a car and drive it there. apparently, dust gets *everywhere* and you’ll never fully clean your car. some people pay to have their cars cleaned afterward and it still never gets all the dust out!
oh, don’t even get started… all the energy consumed out there is running off imported diesel… and at least a gallon of water per person per day… and everything burned and hauled out there and back.
Steve, your Burning Man shots are some of the best I’ve seen in years of looking here on flickr … I also posted on a discussion thread about dust, cameras, and BM, that you were using the Lumix Panasonic DMC-TS3, here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/carnivillain/4116006509/in/photostr...

Thanks. The Lumix worked like a champ, and yes, I figured that a waterproof camera would also be dust-proof. Here is the collection of photo pages from this year, all with this pocket cam (videos too).
I had my 5D Mark II with me, but I left it in the bag, partially out of dust concerns, but mainly because I wanted to travel light, and the water weight alone was enough. =)
I have camped on the playa with my DSLR about 14 times now… but this was my first Burning Man. Like you, I have had no dust problems. I just clean the sensor with a simple static brush after each trip.
And here are a couple example shots of the beauty beyond Burning Man
Looks alot like MAD MAX and WATERWORLD sets all conbined with the Steam Punk and retro looking devices (and behaviours?) melded all into one big BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
