That was one massive volcanic burst… and now just the lips of the volcano rise above sea level. The white parts along the ridge lines are cliff-hugging buildings.

  3. and caused a massive tsunami which first caused water to withdraw from the delta allowing certain people to escape the chasing soldiers who were then swept away when the tsunami hit

    Indiana Jones was here...

    but that happened 90 years later, so perhaps the tsunami was a crippling blow. In any case, it’s amazing to see how far civilization had gone 4000 years ago.

    It may also have catalyzed the myths of Exodus (the parting of the "Reed Sea" in Northern Egypt) and the lost city of Atlantis (wikipedia)

  6. There should be a venture fund for buying up & protecting islands like this from bankrupt Greece. Probably cheaper per acre than the $6,000 Ellison paid /acre for Lanai 😉
