The team in Fremont posed with the aluminum frame, just before painting.

They are excited to see the first car (VIN0001) go through production.

And I am so excited to say that I am driving it today!

  1. Nice. Maybe they should just clearcoat it and let you have it like that. What color will it be?

  2. Did Elon get a package deal painting Fremont and Hawthorne the same color?

  3. ok, vote for Musk to be a future president of our galaxy:):)

Didn’t know you were on campus last night.

  5. @Doug_Dirac_Delta – heh., that link looks like it died, but Engadget and Business Insider picked it up.

And there is a fun story here. I agreed to judge the final project presentations for a marketing class focused on new product launches. What do the first two teams present? The Tesla Model S. What a cool coincidence. So I had to whisper to the Professor that it’s actually sitting in their garage. So after class, a group goes over to take a look, and best of all, the Prof. was so impressed by the demo I gave that he said he will now buy two of them. Marketing to the marketing Prof. Nice. =)

    @solerena – I second the motion!

  6. coincidences keep coming… ahhh… love this color.

  7. depends on the configuration… The reference point I like is that the base model has a total cost of ownership less than a Ford Taurus.

P.S. here is a cool new video of the robots in action, building the Model S in Fremont, CA.

  8. @Steve Jurvetson heh… Seems they picked it up from my comment here.

  9. See teslarumors.com for TOC comparisons.

  10. Congratulations! Driving a new car off the lot today myself, sadly not a Tesla. Someday.

  11. Very, very nice. Congrats.

  12. Awesome work everyone! Congratulations!

  13. The plant looks gorgeous itself!

  14. that’s a really well-taken PHOTO, btw. layout is good, just everything is good about that photo. curious how long it took to do (this photo) from start to finish? (pure photography question, I know. probably doesn’t belong on a photo sharing site, lol).

  15. The only thing missing from the photo is the big foam hands with one raised finger for the robots in the background… =)
