The idea of large complex tools (cars, houses, espresso machines) being created by programmable lifeforms as "skeletons" is very appealing. Possibly the ultimate nano-tech. Imagine living in a giant human-programmed diatom skeleton. The trick is scale. But dinosaur and whale skeletons prove that scale is trivial in the genome.
