  1. sounds like a fun adventure:)

wonder what they have there…ice box looks like a nice place for a garden:)

  2. Empire, NV lost their zip code that’s why I use it for my location on social sites.

  3. heh…. and they lost their welcoming party from 2006:

    End of Civilization

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/physicsman] – I think they are growing weeds

  4. About 5 miles up the road on main street in Gerlach you’ll find Bruno’s country club / motel / cafe / casino / saloon. They might have even have ice lol.

  5. And we stayed at that fine establishment. The ice came with whiskey. =)

It was funny when we stopped at Empire for the first time because we needed one thing – Ice – and we saw those words from the road. (They did have bags of ice inside)

  6. Actually, might make a nice nesting box for chickens!

  7. Oh this is funny… an ad for next weekend’s Lodi, CA launch event reflects the invitation aspirations of the hosts:

    Lodi Launch Ad

Hoping to meet some single moms…

  8. 🙂 wonder if moms can get a carpool ride there:)

  9. LOL! The most photographed ice machine in Nevada.

  10. I think there’s a pay phone booth in Empire with a "lost and found" ad for a rocket launched
in the Black Rock Desert area (has anyone seen my rocket?)
For a well-written backstory on Empire, Nevada, look for the New York Times story "Sheetrock Ghost Town"

  11. That’s in Gerlach… where you don’t see lost kitty signs. Instead, there are plaintive pleas to help find lost rockets…

I have watched several attempts to launch that rocket with a hybrid nitrous R10000 motor.
It’s an amazing story… (with some photos from prior flame outs)
