Under the scrutiny of two TAP observers, Bill launched and recovered this huge rocket to get his L3 Cert. It was ready for launch just at the last moment for the FAA launch waiver.

Congrats!

The CTI N2501 motor took the Cobra rocket to 17,987ft. and mach 1.64 as measured by four avionics systems (ARTS2,GWiz LCX, Beeline 900Mhz GPS, and a Raven)

The booster and payload section landed 4.3 miles away to the South and the nose under chute landed 6.1 miles in the same direction. I can understand the desire to have a bit of extra chute protection on a cert flight; even though the winds will take it further down range, the chances of airframe damage (which would disqualify a certification flight) are minimized.

  2. Thanks for the awesome pictures Steve, you did a great job. 🙂
